MALARIA PREVENTION WORK IN TANZANIA
Malaria is the commonest cause of child mortality in Tanzania. It kills over 100,000 mostly children and pregnant women. Many of those who survive are damaged for life because Malaria can lead to chronic anaemia and brain and kidney damage.
It is estimated that 47% of the population get malaria. Pregnant women and young children are particularly vulnerable.
We worked alongside Winston K. Nongwe, District Malaria Focal Person for Ukerewe and a team of two experience workers from REMIT (Rotarians Eliminating Malaria in Tanzania). Our volunteers went into community every day of the week and raised the profile of the effective work already being carried out by the District team and REMIT.
