Meetings & News...
We had a very successful annual meeting in New Orleans. Fortyseven members and guests attended. In addition to Fellowship business, Ron Gaber shared with the meeting his own experience of mentoring Rotoract Medical Students at ATSU, in Missouri USA. Pat Green was a nurse in New York. She had volunteered through a people to people organisation facilitating connections between needs in the field and volunteers’ skills. Himansu Basu told of his work in trying to reduce maternal mortality which is such a huge problem in many parts of the world - one pregnant woman dies every minute. John Dugal shared some stories of his work with the Navado native Americans who are largely illiterate.
Bangkok: We want to make our AGM an exciting event. Do you have a story to tell? Have you been involved in an exciting humanitarian project? Share your experience with others – contact John Philip (johnphilip@btconnect.com) or Rajinder Singh (drrajindar@gmail.com) for a slot at the AGM in Bangkok.
Regional meetings: There are a number of ways Rotarian Doctors can play an important role in Rotary’s mission to make the world a better place. There are many challenges we face – high incidence of maternal and child mortality, HIV/AIDS, malaria, infectious diseases of all kind, inadequate care of the physically and mentally disabled, non-existent palliative care – to name but a few. If you can organize a local meeting on any aspects of health care, the Fellowship will be please to support it and recommend speakers.
